66 WHAT IS CAR DETAILING? The term “car detailing” has been widely used in Canada for some time but it is still not often understood in other countries. To confuse matters, an ever increasing number of companies are using the term simply because they sometimes polish (mop) a car or offer valeting. Car detailing really isn’t defined by one single process but is instead a term that covers a wide variety of techniques and products which, to get best results, require considerable skill to apply. A valeter may typically spend an hour or less on your car to get it clean, while a bodyshop may only quickly run a polisher over your vehicle to remove a few marks from it, but neither can be classified as detailing. A few of the differences a professional detailer brings to improving your car include: • • • • • • Knowledge - a technical understanding of every aspect of a car’s finish (we have many of experience). Equipment - state of the art products combined with many $1,000’s worth of equipment. Time - a typical detail can take anywhere from 10 to 30 or more hours of labour to complete. Aftercare - being willing and able to provide extensive after service support. Paint protection - not only knowing how to improve the look but also ensuring that it stays that way. Results driven produce guaranteed high quality results for a fixed price and are not time limited. • Full Service / Inside & Out • Brand New State of the Art Wash Facility EXTERIOR CAR WASH Includes Underbody Spray & Hand Dry FULL SERVICE CAR WASH Includes Exterior Wash + Interior Vacuum, Mats Washed,Windows & Dash Wiped OIL CHANGE EMISSION TEST Transmission& CoolantService SALES: (866) 941-7300 SERVICE: (888) 350-9608 PARTS: (888) 352-9819 Inquire about available student & grad savings. Lowest Rates www.InsuranceHotline.com directs a driver to which insurance company has the lowest rate for them. The Consumers’ Association’s report that drivers could be paying 45% more than they need to, along with the Insurance Bureau’s advisory that rates have come down, should alert drivers that they need to do an effective rate comparison to ensure they’re not overpaying. Star Ratings Insurance companies use a “Star Rating” system to rank your driving record to determine what they will charge you for your auto insurance. A driving record of zero usually means that you are either a new driver or you have had an at-fault accident within the last year. A star rating of one means that you’ve then had one year of driving history without having had an accident, and so on. Many companies max their ratings out at a six star, but there are insurance companies out there which offer preferred ratings for up to 10 Star drivers. FINDING A FUEL EFFICIENT RIDE When it comes to purchasing a new vehicle, then you might want to consider buying the most fuel efficient one that meets your needs. Follow these tips to help you make an informed decision: Do some research before you leave home www. vehicles.nrcan.gc.ca allows you compare the fuel consumption of many various makes and models of vehicles for a specific year. Check out the EnerGuide Label. Vehicles can be compared using the EnerGuide label that is found on all new cars. The label shows city and highway fuel consumption ratings and gives an estimated annual fuel costs for that particular vehicle. None of the values may be perfect but they are a start. Choose a manual transmission before choosing an automatic.
