While these values remain constant, their effect on the driver can change based on the level of driving experience and type of licence they hold. Some Demerit Points • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • DRIVING OUTSIDE OF TORONTO While points-systems around the world are largely implemented and enforced on a Provincial or State level only, driving infractions which occur out-of- province or other countries can be enforced in the driver’s home jurisdiction. Such is the case in Ontario where driving infractions obtrained in other provinces possibly result in demerit points. That being said, the list of applicable offences is less exhaustive and generally focuses on more serious infractions that include Racing or Careless Driving. Ontario drivers are also subject to potential demerit points for offences committed in the states of New York and Michigan. You should always find out what the penalties are for a ticket in Ontario before pleading guilty.
