70 will reduce your caloric intake, but there are two major problems: First: You have to maintain the same diet forever to keep the weight off; this may not be healthy or financially possible should you be following an expensive custom diet. Second: The body does not know that you are following a diet, it only knows that it is receiving fewer calories. Exercise and Healthy Eating: This combination is the choice for effective weight loss. Exercise helps to burn more calories, increases lean body tissue which results in a higher metabolic rate and helps to regulate an appetite. Healthy eating emphasizes smaller portions of foods that are low in calories and high in nutrients and energy. A healthy eating plan needs to be flexible so it can constantly be adjusted and meet the body’s energy requirements. Remember that weight control itself is not a very good measure of general overall health. Disordered eating is a medical problem that has finally gained recognition after years of being a buried secret for so many individuals. Even with public awareness, disordered eating still runs rampant on campuses. Although many eating disorders start even before students enter college or university, the many unique situations students can face on campus may actually make an existing problem worse or possibly induce a new one. Let’s face it, a students life is stressful. Leaving home, family, and friends, and being thrust into a land of unknowns can lead to insecurity, which in turn can result in self-destructive behaviour, which could include eating disorders. Regardless of how someone came to develop an eating disorder, it is important they know all the symptoms and how to get help before the behaviour becomes life threatening. Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa, are two different afflictions that are the two most common eating disorders. Bulimia is a binge and purge syndrome that is the most common eating disorder. A bulimic will consume large quantities of food that are high in fat and calories, then expel the food from their body before they gain weight. Bulimia is often quite hard to recognize because many bulimic’s often do not lose a considerable amount of weight. The disorder likely is not an everyday problem.
